Adventure tips

Bring ID for tastingsFrench law requires ID for wine tastings — bring a passport or EU ID to avoid delays at château entry.

Dress in layers and closed shoesCellars are cool and gravel paths can be uneven; closed shoes and a light layer keep you comfortable all day.

Hydrate between tastingsSip water between wines to pace your palate and stay comfortable during a long day of sampling.

Respect the vines and private propertyStick to designated paths and don't enter marked vineyard rows — châteaux are working farms with fragile plantings.

Recommended gear

Comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes: Gravel paths and cellar steps require stable footwear.
Light jacket or sweater: Cellars and morning drives can be cool even in summer.
Sunscreen and a brimmed hat: Vineyard picnic and outdoor photo stops expose you to sun.
Small daypack or camera: Carry water, ID, and a camera for photos between estates.
