A small metal plane lifts from the ramp and the island pulls away beneath you—patchwork fields, a scattering of towns, then the valley opens like a secret being revealed. Windows without tint mean the sun and sea color the cabin: aquamarine reefs, black lava rivers, and rainforest crowns that appear stitched into the slopes. In sixty minutes the island’s drama unfolds from above.
