Read the full experience

You taxi to a small airstrip and the cabin window becomes a theatre of reef and ridge: Molokini’s horseshoe rim cuts against bands of turquoise, waterfalls thread the cliffs of Hana as if the island is breathing, and Haleakalā’s broad crater exudes a quiet, volcanic patience. From your guaranteed window seat the coastline rearranges itself with every turn; the Pacific dares you to follow its color changes from aquamarine to deep blue.

Adventure tips

Declare passenger weights in advanceSmall aircraft require accurate weights for safe load and balance—enter each person’s weight in pounds when booking.

Time your flight for best lightBook early morning or late afternoon for calmer air and richer colors over reefs and ridgelines.

Prepare for motion sensitivityIf you get airsick, take preventive medication and avoid heavy meals before the flight.

Bring a fast camera and polarized lensWindow glare and rapid scene changes reward a camera with fast shutter speeds and a polarizer to deepen water color.

Recommended gear

Compact camera with fast shutter: Captures sharp aerial images of reefs, waterfalls, and volcanic features through the cabin window.
Polarized sunglasses: Reduces glare off water to help you see reef colors and distant details.
Light windbreaker: Useful for pre- and post-flight time on the tarmac where trade winds can be cool.
Motion-sickness medication: Helpful for passengers prone to airsickness during turns or thermal activity.
