You step out of Taipei’s air-conditioned hum into a ribbon of mountain road and the gondola’s slow, patient lift. Below, terraces fan out like pages of green; above, clouds play at the rims of ridgelines. Maokong’s tea gardens breathe mist and scent—an earthy steam that seems to invite slow tasting and quieter conversation.

The tour is listed as suitable for all fitness levels, but note the gondola, temple steps, and some uneven surfaces may limit access; inquire about specific mobility needs when booking.
Maokong’s tea culture grew with Taipei’s suburban tea research efforts; the Taipei Tea Promotion Center opened in 1985 to educate visitors on Tieguanyin and Baozhong processing. Zhinan Temple was founded in 1882 and is a longstanding local religious site.
The promotion center highlights soil-conservation practices and the area faces visitor-impact issues—stick to paths, avoid trampling terraces, and minimize single-use plastics when sampling food.
