The evening gathers above Covent Garden like a low curtain of light; gas lamps warm the pavements, theatre-goers spill from stages, and the city's walls begin to echo with voices. On this private pub crawl you move through streets that have hosted market traders and actors for centuries, pausing at five distinct public houses where carved bars and polished brass tell stories louder than the pints.
