You push off from Marina Izola with salt on your lips and a local skipper at the helm, the boat cutting a clean line along low limestone cliffs. The sea here is clear enough to count stones; sunlight sketches turquoise patches beneath the hull as you head toward the Strunjan reserve and the small coves that only reveal themselves from the water.
