THE ADVENTURE COLLECTIVE® · Independent discovery and booking for outdoor travel

Read the full experience

A low sun lights the quay in Hurghada as a private speedboat idles, engines humming like a patient animal waiting to run. Guests step aboard and the sea takes over: the Red Sea’s blue pushes forward and invites you to choose a route — shallow reef gardens for breathless coral, quiet coves for a lazy swim, or a chase after dolphins cutting the swell.

History

Giftun Islands are reef and sand formations that have long been used by local fishers and later became protected leisure spots as Hurghada grew into a dive hub.

Conservation

Operators encourage reef-safe sunscreen, no-touch snorkeling, and limited anchoring to protect coral; choosing responsible guides reduces your impact.

Adventure tips

Bring reef-safe sunscreenApply coral-safe sunscreen before entering the water and reapply on the boat to protect reefs and marine life.

Time your departureMorning trips typically have calmer seas and better visibility for snorkeling; book early to catch the glassy conditions.

Pack light motion-sickness remediesIf you’re prone to seasickness, take or bring medication and choose a mid-boat seating area for the smoothest ride.

Respect marine habitatsAvoid touching or standing on coral, and use the ladder rather than jumping when reboarding to minimize reef damage.

Recommended gear

Mask & snorkel: Bringing or renting a well-fitting snorkel set improves comfort and visibility during reef stops.
Reef-safe sunscreen: Protects skin and the coral ecosystems—required behavior on most reputable charters.
Water shoes: Useful for rocky shore entries and wet decks; prevents slips when boarding and on island sand.
Light wind shell: Provides wind protection during open-water transits and cooler mornings.
