You roll out of Las Vegas before the heat builds and the highway opens into sun-baked desert. The first stop is the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, where the road gives way to a sweeping viewpoint 900 feet above the Colorado River; concrete and canyon stare each other down and cameras click. After the Hoover Dam photo stop the route bends west and south toward the Hualapai lands that hold Grand Canyon West.
