El Yunque Off the Beaten Path

Come along on an outing you’ll never forget—through the beauty of El Yunque Rainforest, the only tropical rain forest in the United States Forest System and a must-stop for all visitors of Puerto Rico!

This is a moderate to strenuous activity and may not be suitable for everyone. Please read entire description before confirming.

About

The tour will begin with pickup directly at your location when staying in San Juan, Isla Verde, Rio Grande, Luquillo or Fajardo.

Get ready for a completely Off the Beaten Path experience where you will hike thru the forest while learning about it's unique flora and fauna.

The Forest covers over 28,000 contiguous acres, with peaks, escarpments, myriad steams and waterfalls, and a lush green vegetation representing various forest types, it truly is a biodiversity paradise.

Initial hike is 30 minutes. During this time you will need to cross a river, climb steep areas with rocky and uneven terrain and climb rocks. You will then arrive to the first set of natural pools, perfect for refreshing! The group will later move to another area where you will need to climb rocks in order to reach it's fun natural waterslides. Here you can also swing from a rope into the water (optional) or just taking a relaxing dip on it's pristine waters.

After the hike, we will stop for lunch at a local restaurant (food cost not included).

Safety Requirements and Limitations:

  • Participants must be physically capable of walking thru steep, rocky, muddy trails, climb rocks, and have balance to walk by uneven surfaces. 
  • Pregnant ladies, persons with previous injuries, back or knee problems,  recent surgery or other serious medical conditions cannot participate.
  • Children must be 6 years or older and at least 60 lbs in order to participate. 

Notes: 

  • Wear bathing suit and comfortable clothes.
  • Bring a towel and extra pair of clothing. 
  • Tennis, Sneakers or Hiking shoes are required (must be closed toe, no sandals). Shoes will get wet and muddy.
  • Must have a good breakfast before departing on tour.
  • Use of lifejacket and helmet is mandatory.

All tours leave from San Juan and Metro Area. To account for transportation, guests should allow up to 8 hours for the entire experience. We'll spend about 2.5 hr driving, 1hr lunch, 3.5 - 4 hr in the rainforest itself.

Join us on this Exclusive Half Day activity where you will discover the exotic flora and fauna of the El Yunque National Rainforest—one of the oldest forest reserves in the Western Hemisphere and the only Tropical Rainforest inside US National Forest System.

A leisurely drive takes you to the trailhead while your guide shares stories and history about the towns along the way. You'll see tree orchids, giant ferns, bamboo trees, wild flowers, tropical hardwoods and spectacular waterfalls. This is a true, tropical paradise in which the Taino Indians have resided and considered sacred for years.

During this educational tour you will make several stops along the Corridor, including: El Portal Visitor Center - learn more in depth about this 28,000 contiguous acres rainforest which is home to more than 240 species of plants and wildlife. Enjoy interactive displays and a paved short trail. Visit to La Coca Waterfall —a 85 feet (26 m) waterfall—that quickly comes into view with its magnificent drop down onto huge rock formations and a shallow-water pool. Perfect for picture opportunities! Climb the Yokahú Observation Tower at 69 feet (21 m) tall spiral tower, where views are unobstructed and far-reaching. At this point you are 1,500 feet (457 m) above sea level and it is a great place to relax before our return to San Juan.

At the end of the tour we will make a quick stop at the river or a small trail with waterfall.

One hour of complimentary lunch stop available, if requested (food cost not included).

What is not included: Lunch Gratuity for your tour guide is not included, but greatly appreciated.

  • Children must have paying ticket regardless the age. - Children under 7 years are required to travel to the Rainforest on car seats. We can provide them complimentary but must be requested with anticipation. We will not accept same day request for this.

The El Yunque National Forest Half Day tour is led by Bespoke Lifestyle Management, who operates under special use permit 22042 on the El Yunque National Forest and operates on a non-discriminatory basis.

All tours leave from San Juan and Metro Area. Pick up in Rio Grande also included. To account for transportation, guests should allow up to 5 hours for the entire experience. We'll spend about 2hr driving, 3hr in the rainforest itself (1 hr lunch optional).
