You step out of Venice’s canals and into a different rhythm as the Mercedes glides onto the SS48 toward the Dolomites. Within an hour the city’s brick and lagoon scent gives way to limestone cliffs that rise like folded pages of the earth; the road traces river valleys, climbs to high passes and delivers panoramic views where clouds press against jagged ridgelines.

Most operators pick up in central Venice (hotels or agreed meeting points) and return to the same area at day’s end; confirm exact pickup details when booking.
The day is primarily a scenic drive with short, non-technical walks at viewpoints and village stops rather than full hikes.
Infants can ride but must sit on laps per operator policy; specialized infant seats may be available—ask in advance.
The route may be adjusted for safety and visibility; operators typically do not cancel unless conditions are unsafe, but check the cancellation policy for refunds.
The Dolomites preserve paleontological records of ancient reefs and were frontlines in World War I; many passes host remnants of mountain wartime infrastructure.
High visitor numbers stress fragile alpine meadows; stick to roads and designated paths, support local businesses, and avoid disturbing wildlife.
