The vehicle slides off the paved road and the city skyline recedes into a pale band of glass; soon only wind, sand and an unbroken horizon remain. Drivers ease the 4x4 into the dune faces, the machine climbs and drops, and the dunes push and pull at your balance. At the camel camp a short ride offers a quiet contrast—camels chew and watch the sky—before the dunes roar back to life as you head toward the rare spectacle where desert meets ocean.
