Juyongguan served as a strategic military pass since the Han period and was strengthened under the Ming; Longqing Gorge’s dramatic valleys were carved by rivers cutting through limestone and sandstone.
Both sites manage visitor flow to protect fragile rock surfaces and river ecology; stick to marked paths, avoid feeding wildlife and carry out trash.
