Uppsala is the fourth biggest city in Sweden, mainly due to its university who dates back to 1477. Uppsala is also the seat for the Swedish archbishop. The Uppsala cathedral is the largest in Scandinavia and the national cathedral of Sweden. Swedish kings have been coronated and buried here, visit the grave of king Vasa (who gained Sweden its independence from Denmark) and the behead king Saint Erik.
Many important Swedes lived and died in Uppsala, you can visit Carl Linneaus (founder of the naming system for plants) grave, Dag Hammarskjold (UN General Secretary) and in Old Uppsala you find Anders Celsius' (the temperature scale inventor) grave. Take your time and walk around for lunch of your own choosing. A shopping time and some free time is also included if you wish to do this. You may visit the central market and modern Downtown area. Included is also a visit to Old Uppsala. This cool and special archaeological site has been inhabited for more than 1500 years and is seen as the most important settlement of early Sweden and during the Vendel era it held it's biggest importance (550-800AD).
