Adventure tips

Book morning sessionsTracks are firmer and faster early; mornings give better grip for technique work and clearer visibility.

Dress in layersStart cool; add or remove a midlayer during interval drills to manage sweat and core temperature.

Use wax appropriate to temperatureAsk your instructor about grip wax for classic skis or klister in wet-snow conditions to avoid slipping mid-lesson.

Protect extremitiesHands and ears get cold first — bring insulated gloves and a thin buff to maintain dexterity during pole drills.

Recommended gear

Cross-country skis (classic or skate): Properly sized skis improve glide and provide the correct platform for technique drills.
Ski boots and poles: Well-fitted boots and poles of the right length are critical for balance and efficient poling.
Layered synthetic clothing: Moisture-wicking base layers and a breathable midlayer help regulate temperature during intervals.
Sunglasses or goggles with UV protection: Bright snow reflects sunlight — eye protection prevents glare and wind chill during faster sections.
