About

The tour will start at Trajan's Column where our guide will be waiting to introduce themselves to you. This monumental column was built to celebrate Trajan’s victory over the Dacians and marked the largest expansion of the Roman Empire. From here, a short walk along the Imperial Forum, constructed in Rome’s Golden Age, will take us to the entrance of the more famous Roman Forum. As we enter inside the archaeological site your private guide will show you all of the most iconic and important monuments that have made it one of the most visited sites in the world, but also the hidden gems that can only be seen in smaller groups. The bold majesty of the senate house, where famous men planned for war, lies very close to the House of the Vestal Virgins, where young women prayed for peace and it is these juxtapositions that help give us a complete idea of the complexity of ancient Roman life. From the forum we move up onto the Palatine Hill to explore the Imperial Palace, home of the emperors. Here, wandering around the palace’s many rooms, we get an idea of the luxury the emperors lived in and can still inspect fragments of patterned marble and painted frescoes that would have adorned the walls. From the back of the palace we get an amazing view over the Circus Maximus, the largest stadium ever built, where ancient chariot races were held and organized team sports began. When we get to the Colosseum you will enter the stadium where Gladiators fought and died in the sand for the amusement of the mob. You will learn all about the various feast days that the games were held on, the many different types of gladiator fights, seating arrangements and even what was on the menu. We can then leisurely walk around the Colosseum marvelling at its incredible architecture, imposing atmosphere and hidden secrets while learning everything there is to know about its glorious and bloody past. Once we leave the mighty structure the tour is at its end, but our guides are more than willing and happy to help out with any advice or useful hints that might make your holiday a more relaxing one.
