The day opens with a hum of tires and a cool mountain breath as the minivan peels away from Cape Town toward the folded ribs of the Winelands. Vine rows march across the valley and sunlight throws sharp relief on old stone homesteads; the guide eases up a mountain pass so passengers can step out, stretch and photograph the Franschhoek valley spilling below.

Winemaking in the Cape Winelands traces to early European settlers—Huguenot refugees in the 17th–18th centuries established many of the vineyards and farmsteads still visited today.
Many estates emphasize water‑wise viticulture and offer organic or biodynamic options; practice low‑impact touring by using provided spit buckets and avoiding single‑use plastics.
