Immerse yourself in Alaska’s wild beauty with an exclusive private bear viewing and wildlife photography workshop! Take to the skies for a breathtaking flight over the islands and mountains of Southeast Alaska before landing in a remote wilderness to spend the day photographing bears and other wildlife in their natural habitat.

Led by experienced local guides who are professional photographers and skilled instructors, you’ll receive expert tips on capturing the perfect shot while learning about bear behavior, the surrounding ecosystem, local history, and indigenous culture. After an awe-inspiring day, enjoy another stunning flight back to Juneau and the comforts of town. This once-in-a-lifetime adventure is not to be missed!

Instructors will work with you before, during, and after your trip to get the best shots, use the right gear, and edit like a pro!

What to Bring

  • Your sense of ADVENTURE and a love of wild places!
  • Warm clothing in layers. Bear viewing is a mostly sedentary activity, and Coastal Alaska is a cool, wet environment.
  • Your own rain gear and waders/rubber boots if you have them (not required).
  • Your camera with a good zoom and an extra battery (we are happy to help with equipment preferences).
  • Any medications that you need daily.

Guest Requirements

  • The minimum age for a private trip is 8.
  • Our small aircraft have a per passenger weight limit of 250lbs (113kg) per seat. There is a $300 per person charge for guests over this limit. Guests must be able to walk 1/2 mile over uneven and sometimes slippery ground to reach the viewing area.
  • We keep strict control over all food and scented items. Please limit the scented items you bring, and please let us know about all of them. Each guest is limited to one backpack each. You must be able to easily carry everything you bring with you.
  • All guests must agree to follow the guide's directions at all times.
  • Guests must disclose all pertinent medical history and bring any required medications. All guests must sign a liability waiver before departing.
  • Due to weather and variations in flight schedules caused by weather delays, it is strongly recommended that you do not schedule other tours on the same day as our bear viewing trips.
  • Wild Coast Excursions reserves the right to cancel any trip due to unsafe weather, inadequate trip sign ups (2 guests), inappropriate guest health or fitness, or any other safety issues. In the event we have to cancel your trip, we will make every attempt to reschedule it. If we cannot reschedule your trip, we will issue you a full refund minus a $100 per person non-refundable permit fee.
  • Bear sighting are not guaranteed. This is real Wild Alaska!

Temperatures can vary throughout the day, so dressing in layers ensures comfort during long hours outdoors.

Bring a telephoto lens

A lens with at least 300mm zoom is crucial for capturing detailed wildlife shots from a safe distance.

Arrive early and stay patient

Wildlife activity peaks during dawn and dusk, so plan to arrive early and be prepared to wait.

Maintain a respectful distance

Safety is paramount; always follow guide instructions to avoid disturbing the bears or putting yourself at risk.
