You step aboard a low-slung wooden boat built in 1915 and feel the city shift—brick facades sliding past like pages in a street-level atlas. The canal water, dark and deliberate, threads through the rings of Amsterdam, daring you to slow down and look. A skipper guides the boat under low bridges and past houseboats, pointing out carved gables and ironwork that marked merchant fortunes.
