Santorini’s steep cliffs and black‑sand beaches are the legacy of the massive Bronze Age Minoan eruption of Thera, which created the island’s caldera and unique volcanic soils.
The caldera and surrounding marine areas are ecologically sensitive; stick to marked paths, avoid trampling fragile vegetation, and minimize single‑use plastics to reduce local impact.
