The Grand Erg Oriental sits on historical caravan routes and nearby Roman outposts; Douz is often called the gateway to Sahara culture and the seasonal center for nomadic trade.
Dune ecosystems are fragile—avoid driving off established tracks, limit campfire wood collection, and pack out all waste to reduce impact on scarce desert resources.
