Bovec and the surrounding Soča Valley were part of intensive mountain warfare during World War I; local architecture and place names still reflect Austro-Hungarian and Italian influences.
The Soča’s clear waters and alpine habitats are sensitive—stick to marked paths and pack out trash; local operators support low-impact tourism.
