Precision and Practice: Skills and Drills with Ron Gallegos at Staccato Ranch (Florence, TX)

At Staccato Ranch outside Florence, Texas, Skills and Drills with Ron Gallegos is a focused weekly firearms session that sharpens fundamentals in a real-world ranch setting. Run by Ron Gallegos, a former U.S. Army Engineer Officer, the Thursday 5–6pm course compresses decades of disciplined training into an hour of structured drills. The meeting point is the ranch gun bays and staging area (check booking notes for exact check-in), where open fields, limestone soils and cedar-oak edges frame a practical training environment rather than a recreational shooting park. This session zeroes in on fundamentals: stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger press, and magazine management, practiced across live-fire strings and dry-fire repetitions. Group size is capped at eight, which keeps instruction personal: Ron watches each shooter, times strings, and offers mechanical corrections and mindset coaching drawn from military leadership experience. Targets are varied—paper for precision, steel for instant feedback—and the rhythm of repeating short, measurable drills builds confidence and consistency faster than ad-hoc range time. What makes this offering stand out in the local recreation scene is the blend of military-style instructional rigor with a ranch-floor informality. Staccato Ranch isn't a commercial indoor range; its outdoor bays allow instructors to demonstrate recoil management and movement against the real backdrop of Texas ranchland. Visitors who stay in nearby Florence or drive in from Austin or Waco find an efficient skill tune-up between longer training courses or hunting seasons. Practical takeaways include immediate, trackable improvement and reliable safety protocols: sessions emphasize muzzle discipline, safe reloading, clearing malfunctions, and situational awareness. The format suits beginners who want disciplined, patient coaching and experienced shooters who need to diagnose mechanical errors under time. Wear closed-toe shoes and eye and ear protection; bring a willingness to repeat small motions until they become automatic. Sessions include scenario-based transitions between targets, reload drills, and diagnosis of common shooter errors such as anticipation and flinch. Ron uses simple metrics—split times, hit percentage, and reload speed—to set measurable goals each week so progress is obvious. The small-group format creates peer learning without pressure, and Ron’s background as an Army Engineer brings a methodical approach to problem solving on the firing line. New visitors report leaving with clearer habits, safer routines, and a plan for their next practice session.
