You push off from the small crescent of Paraggi, the sea opening like a cool, moving floor beneath your kayak as the pastel houses of Portofino hold their place above the water. The guide sets the pace and the bay answers with a steady, salt-scented rhythm; cormorants wheel, waves nudge the hull, and the promontory of Portofino rises, rocky and abrupt, daring you toward the lighthouse.
