Os Açores são atualmente um dos maiores santuários de baleias do mundo. Entre espécies residentes e migratórias, comuns ou raras, avistam-me mais de 20 tipos diferentes de cetáceos nas suas águas. O número impressiona e corresponde a um terço do total de espécies existentes. Estamos num ecossistema de caraterísticas únicas. Com a presença das majestosas baleias e dos simpáticos golfinhos.

A ilha terceira mais propriamente a cidade histórica de Angra do Heroísmo é um perfeito aquário natural de observação de cetáceos. O elevado fluxo de alimento e por nossa zona costeira não ter uma plataforma continental a profundidade fica muito grande mesmo perto da costa o que faz com que seja um ex-libris para os cetáceos. Com uma percentagem altíssima de avistamentos até aos 90% a terceira se tornou na ilha de eleição para o avistamento dos mesmos.
