Med prijetnim sprehodom po središču Ljubljane se vam na vodenem ogledu razkrijejo nekatera njegova najboljša dela. Osrednja mestna tržnica, ki jo je Plečnik zasnoval kot niz pokritih tržnic ob reki ter pozneje tudi povezal s Tromostovjem – še eno njegovo mojstrovino, ki je nastala, ko je v letih med 1929 in 1932 osrednjemu mostu dodal še dva mostova, namenjena pešcem, in tako ustvaril edinstveno arhitekturno posebnost Ljubljane. Tu so še Narodna in univerzitetna knjižnica, ureditev bregov Ljubljanice, Čevljarski most, Poletno gledališče Križanke, Kongresni trg.
S premišljenimi posegi v urbano tkivo Ljubljane, z mostovi, uličnimi in parkovnimi ureditvami je Plečnik provincialno habsburško mesto z baročnimi in secesijskimi poudarki spremenil v slovensko prestolnico.
