Playable Souvenirs: Make a Tic Tac Toe Board in New Bern

At the heart of New Bern, North Carolina, a short hands-on workshop turns the classic game of tic-tac-toe into a portable keepsake you’ll actually want to pack for the road. Tic Tac Toe Board offers an approachable 1.5-hour session where instructors guide you through customizing a functional travel board—design choices, finishing touches, and practical tips that help your piece last. The setting is a community-minded studio in New Bern, a riverside town known for its historic downtown and accessible arts scene.

The key features of this experience are purposeful and direct: a compact, travel-sized game board, a set of pieces to personalize, and step-by-step help from instructors focused on durability and usability. Participants choose colors, grid layouts, and small decorative elements that reflect local motifs or personal travel memories. The class emphasizes low-mess methods suitable for families and campers who want a playable, packable object rather than a fragile souvenir.

Although the activity is indoors, the coastal landscape matters—the Neuse River and the town’s wooden storefronts often inspire color palettes and simple graphic choices. The workshop centers on human-scale making: no industrial fabrication, just straightforward tools and hands-on instruction that favor longevity. Materials and techniques are selected so your game survives backpacks, beach days, and picnic tables.

Why visitors love it: the class turns souvenir shopping into a creative project and gives you something you’ll actually use on trips. It’s ideal for travelers who prefer experience-driven keepsakes and for families looking for a light indoor option on unpredictable coastal days. The session is beginner-friendly; no advanced skills are required—just a willingness to try and a fondness for small, functional design.

Practical notes: the workshop runs about 1.5 hours and suits mixed-age groups. Reserve a spot in advance—classes are short and fill quickly. Bring a small bag for your finished board or plan to carry it flat; wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little paint on if you choose to decorate boldly. Whether you’re collecting meaningful kit for a road trip or crafting a usable gift, this Tic Tac Toe Board workshop connects making to place and offers a compact, memorable craft tied to New Bern’s creative pulse.

The workshop is handy for weekend paddles or short island hops because the finished board stows in a daypack or dry bag and doubles as a picnic pastime.
