On this Pisa, Lucca and Wine tasting, from Livorno enjoy a trip to your first stop on this tour! In Pisa, you’ll visit the Square of the Miracles, site of the recently restored Leaning Tower of Pisa. Construction of the tower began in 1176, and was completed in 1350 by Tommaso Pisano. An interesting cathedral found in the square, is in the Pisan Romanesque style.
The baptistery, which is adjacent to the cathedral, is decorated with gothic motifs. Each of the monuments in the square complement each other to create a harmonious effect. Many of the historical buildings, which have now become part of the University of Pisa, are also explorable.
Next, you’ll head for Lucca and take a stroll through the old town! It is very much influenced by the Etruscan civilization, which later became a Roman municipality. In the Middle Ages, Lucca was governed by the aristocracy; At some point, it was even governed by Elisa Baciocchi, sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. During the visit, make sure to walk along the city walls which are a unique feature of the town.
A drive through the Lucchese area of Montecarlo is next on the agenda. Finally, you will visit a lovely local winery where we will take a stroll around the vineyards and olive groves, while an expert explains the various types of grapes used to make their Chianti wine. The wine tasting is accompanied by samples of specialties of the house, such as homemade pasta, bruschette and antipasto (not included in the price of the tour).
