You start before dawn in Perth, boarding an air-conditioned coach as the coast stretches into low dunes and salt flats. The bus hums south and then north again, and at Hutt Lagoon the landscape flips from roadside scrub to a surreal pink mirror; the lake can glow bubble-gum, lilac, or pale salmon depending on sunlight and algal activity.
