OBJECTIVE: Learn safety procedures and equalization techniques to comfortably freedive to a max depth of 66ft (20m). Gain the skills and knowledge to go beyond your limits and set new personal records. Freediving is about testing yourself and discovering what you are truly capable of.

TECHNIQUES/SKILLS:

  • Surface procedures
  • Review of proper weighting
  • Mask clears
  • Practice duck dives & equalization
  • Emergency skills
  • Breathing Techniques & Breath Holds

We begin with a thorough review of breathing techniques and safety protocols. Then we don our wetsuits and hop in the pool to practice everything from the basics of mask clearings, surface safety procedures, duck dives, and emergency protocols. When we go to the ocean for your Certification Dives, we also review exits/entries, before testing your skills to a minimum of 10m (33') and up to a maximum of 20m (66').

This is your opportunity to get acquainted with this sport and comfortable underwater so that you can properly enjoy yourself out in the open ocean. We hope that you continue to train and enjoy freediving as much as we do, by joining us for Line Diving Sessions, Pool Trainings, and more advanced courses such as FD Level 2, and U/W Hunting & Fishing.

Adventure Tips

Always Dive with a Buddy

Freediving safety depends on having a trained partner monitoring you at all times underwater.

Practice Equalization Techniques Early

Start practicing equalization before your dive to avoid discomfort at depth.

Stay Hydrated Before Your Dive

Dehydration can increase risk underwater, so drink plenty of water prior to your session.

Wear a Wetsuit Appropriate for Water Temperature

Monterey’s water can be cold year-round; a good wetsuit helps maintain body heat.
