You step away from the still, salty surface of the Dead Sea as dawn thins the horizon and the desert highway pulls you south toward red rock and carved stone. The drive opens into the Shara Mountains, and within hours the narrow Siq funnels you toward the Treasury’s carved face—Petra’s most photographed threshold—where sandstone walls change color as the sun climbs.
