Peter Pan Goes Wrong in Perry: Hilarious Community Theatre Mayhem Near Ogden

Peter Pan Goes Wrong lands in Perry, Utah — a small city on the northern edge of the Wasatch Front, where community theatre turns chaos into craft. At the center of the evening is the inept Cornley Drama Society, whose attempt to stage J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan explodes into two acts of comic disaster. Expect airborne actors, malfunctioning sets, ill-timed pyrotechnics and a run of technical mishaps that make every cue feel precariously alive.

The venue sits in Perry, Utah, United States, a compact town that’s an easy drive from Ogden and the Great Salt Lake’s shoreline. The show’s scene is theatrical: a raked proscenium stage, rigging for flying sequences, trapdoors, painted flats meant to become Neverland, and a labyrinth of ropes, hooks and stage machinery that misbehaves at the best—and worst—moments. Key features include the flying boy, the Fairy, surprise sharp hooks, and pyrotechnic moments; the drama grows out of physical comedy and intentional failure rather than illusion. That collision of technical theatre and slapstick is what makes this production singular here: it turns local performance spaces into living, teetering machines.

There’s a particular thrill in watching the human and mechanical elements collide. Props strike false notes, set pieces refuse to stay upright, and actors recover with split-second improvisation. If you’re curious how theatre works—rigging, sight-lines, special effects—this show gives a masterclass in how things can go sideways and still land. The Cornley troupe’s style echoes the creators of The Play That Goes Wrong and riffs on the British tradition of farce, offering both affectionate homage and new laughs.

Practical details: the running time is about 2 hours and 5 minutes. Arrive early to find seating and scan sight-lines; rows close to the stage deliver a more visceral experience of the stagecraft, while balcony seats let you admire the choreography of collapse. Families with older children may adore the physicality; small kids might be startled by loud bangs and sudden movements.

Booking through the provided referral link secures tickets and helps local presentation partners. Perry’s compact downtown, nearby parks and easy access from I-15 make a theatre night an accessible detour between outdoor days. For visitors to northern Utah who want something off the usual outdoor itinerary, Peter Pan Goes Wrong offers a wild, intelligent and thoroughly human evening where spectacle meets delightful disorder.

Longtime theatre-goers will spot affectionate nods to J.M. Barrie’s 1904 play and to British farce conventions, so the show works as both parody and loving adaptation. Tickets often sell fast for community-circuit productions; reserve seats online, check for any age guidance, and expect an energetic, loud performance that celebrates improvisation as much as scripting. The evening leaves you laughing—and marveling at skill required to make mistakes.
