About

The tour begins with a Pearl Harbor tour, where we relive the events that unfolded on that fateful Sunday morning in 1941, when U.S. forces at Pearl Harbor came under attack by Japan – catapulting the United States into World War II.

The USS Arizona Memorial then offers an appropriate setting to reflect on the extensive battle that took place, leading to the loss of life of 1,177 of the ship’s crewmen. Then you can visit the USS Bowfin Submarine. Be sure and stop in both gift shops for wonderful souvenirs!

The journey then moves onward to the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, where many of those who fought for their country are buried. Finally, you’ll visit Honolulu’s most noteworthy historical landmarks, including Iolani Palace, Statue of Queen Liliuokalani, Ali’iolani Hale building (home of the Hawaii State Supreme Court) and view the magnificent statue of King Kamehameha, Kawaiahao Church, the Hawaii State Capitol, and the Honolulu City Hall.

Historic Landmark Tour Highlights (* denotes stops made)

  • Pearl Harbor Visitor Center* - Welcome to the Pearl Harbor tour, your gateway to American wartime history. Here you can visit monuments and museums, see exhibit galleries, and displays, and learn from Pearl Harbor survivors.
  • “Road to War” and “Attack” Exhibit Galleries* - These galleries located at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center display personal memorabilia, dramatic photographs, artifacts of the battle, and so much more.
  • USS Arizona Memorial* - A must see for all visitors. The Memorial marks the resting place of 1,102 of the 1,177 crew and built over the sunken battleship USS Arizona, killed on December 7, 1941. The attack on Pearl Harbor led to the United States’ involvement in World War II. The Memorial was built in 1962 and visited by over 2 million people annually. A navy boat shuttle ride brings you to the USS Arizona Memorial and due to limited capacity, there may be days that the shuttle boat tickets sell out or bad weather prohibits the shuttle from operating.
  • The USS Bowfin Submarine* – is considered to be the best preserved and most visited submarine, that served in WWII.
  • National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl - This beautifully maintained cemetery at Punchbowl is a memorial to honor the men and women who served in the United States Armed Forces and those who gave up their lives in the line of duty. This is also the final resting place of Ellison Onizuka, the first astronaut from Hawaii, who was in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.
  • Hawaii State Capitol Grounds - Includes the Father Damien Statue - a tribute to the Roman Catholic priest who died after 16 years of serving leprosy patients - the Eternal Flame, the Korean Vietnam War Memorial, and the Liberty Bell.
  • Iolani Palace* - This majestic structure was the official residence of Hawaii’s last reigning monarch and is the only royal palace in the United States. It features American Florentine architecture seen nowhere else in the world.
  • King Kamehameha Statue at Ali’iolani Hale* - One of Hawaii’s prominent chiefs who united the Hawaiian Islands, which stands in front of the Hawaii State Supreme Court building.
  • Downtown Honolulu – Drive through the most important business district of Hawaii.
  • Honolulu City Hall - Known as Honolulu Hale, the city hall is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the site of the chambers of the Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu and the Honolulu City Council.
  • Kawaiahao Church - One of the oldest standing Christian places of worship in Hawaii, this church is often described as the Westminster Abbey of the Pacific. It was constructed from slabs of coral rock hand-chiseled by Hawaiian divers almost 200 years ago, and the bells that King Kamehameha provided, still toll hourly, to this day.
  • Kaka’ako – Where international artists have painted beautiful murals on commercial buildings for the Kaka’ako Pow Wow.
  • The Aloha Tower – The Statue of Liberty in Hawaii
  • Ala Moana Shopping Center – The largest outdoor/open air shopping mall, in the United States.

Embrace a very history packed ½ day (5 hour) on your excursion to Pearl Harbor National Park, Downtown Honolulu, the I’olani Palace, with the statue of Queen Liliuokalani, King Kamehameha Statue, at the Ali’iolani Hale Building, and many more spots with historical landmarks.

The SHAXI Pearl Harbor, Punchbowl Cemetery, and Historical Downtown Honolulu Tour is a Semi-Private, small group tour with a knowledgeable tour guide/driver. You have enough time to watch the Pearl Harbor movie, take the Navy run ferry to the USS Arizona Memorial, and then wonder around the grounds of the Pearl Harbor National Park, check out The Bowfin Submarine, and shop at the gift stores. Ferry boat ride tickets to the USS Arizona Memorial cannot be guaranteed, due to the government run lottery system ticket allotment.

We then, will drive you through the National Cemetery of the Pacific, (also referred to as Punchbowl Cemetery) which is a very touching and fitting place to view before, or after your USS Arizona Memorial experience. It is a solemn, yet beautiful place of rest for those who lost their lives during combat.

On your way from, or back into Waikiki, you will stop at the King Kamehameha Statue in front of the “Hawaii Five-0” Headquarters. You will have 20 minutes to be able to see the King Kamehameha statue up close, and walk across the street, to visit the I’olani Palace, and see the statue of and learn about Hawaiian history, in the downtown Honolulu area.

This small group, is a semi private Pearl Harbor tour, that is perfect for everybody that wants to explore Pearl Harbor, but does not want to be cramped in one of the big tour busses. Maximum group size is 14.

Due to the government regulated ticket lottery system, the USS Arizona boat ride tickets cannot be guaranteed. If we do not have tickets for the boat ride, we will inform you ahead of time. You can choose to come on tour with us and receive a $10 discount per booking or you can request a full refund IF you choose not to go.
