Adventure tips

Go early for active birdsArrive in the morning when birds are most vocal and active; light is softer for photography and temperatures are cooler.

Wear sturdy, closed shoesBoardwalks and forest trails can be uneven and damp—closed-toe shoes give better traction and protection.

Bring insect repellentTropical forest edges can harbor mosquitoes, especially in warm months—apply repellent and check for ticks after the visit.

Follow no-flash and no-feed rulesFlashes and feeding disrupt animal behavior and can harm birds; obey signage and guide instructions at all times.

Recommended gear

Closed-toe walking shoes: Protects feet on damp, uneven boardwalks and forest trails.
Insect repellent: Reduces mosquito bites during warm, humid months in the Atlantic Forest.
Mid-telephoto camera lens (200–300mm): Helps frame birds in aviaries and canopy without disturbing them.
Light rain jacket: Short, heavy showers are common in summer—stay dry and protect electronics.
