A bruise of predawn light lifts off the Pacific as a coach peels away from Miraflores at 5:00 a.m., and the road south becomes a ribbon toward salt, sand and wildlife. By midmorning travelers stand on the bobbing deck of a small boat as the Ballestas Islands come into view: rocky outcrops bristling with guano, sea lions hauling out on ledges and Humboldt penguins slipping through surf that seems to dare you to come closer.

The boat portion is approximately two hours and departs from Paracas; timing depends on sea conditions.
For safety the buggy is driven by a professional; sandboarding can be done standing or lying down depending on experience and available boards.
Lunch is not included — the itinerary stops at a winery and local restaurants where you can purchase food; bring snacks and water for the road.
If conditions prevent the boat from running, the operator may cancel the island tour and refund a portion or offer an alternate activity; check the cancellation policy for specifics.
