Sunlight slices through warm Caribbean water as you settle on the boat’s ledge, regulator in your mouth and reef coral drifting by like a slow parade. This is Cozumel: clear, blue, and famously forgiving for new divers — but honest about currents. Over three focused days you move from classroom and confined-water skill drills on a shallow, coral-strewn coast to two open-water dives in Cozumel National Marine Park, emerging with an international card that allows dives to 18 meters.
moderate.
3 days (approx. 12–15 hours of in-person instruction).
Suitable for most active people who can swim and handle repeated surface intervals; expect moderate exertion during skill drills and boat transfers.
Minimum age is 10 years; 10–11 year-olds are limited to shallower training dives (typically to 12 meters).
No prior scuba certification is required; the course starts with basic theory and confined-water skills before open-water dives.
The Open Water certification permits recreational dives up to 18 meters (60 feet) and is internationally recognized by most dive operators.
Equipment use, lunch, a digital theory kit, and insurance are included; bring swimwear, a fitted mask if you prefer, towels, ID, and any personal medications.
Cozumel was a sacred island to the Maya and later became a commercial and tourism center; its reefs were protected under Cozumel National Marine Park in the 1990s.
The marine park preserves reef habitat; divers are encouraged to practice neutral buoyancy, avoid touching coral, and use reef-safe sunscreen to minimize impact.
