El curso de PADI Divemaster dura un mínimo de 10 días, durante los cuales buceadores de rescate certificados aprenden los conocimientos y habilidades necesarias para hacer la transición del buceo de recreo y el primer nivel profesional. El conocimiento del Instructor será desarrollado y probado.
El entrenamiento de aguas confinadas incluye perfeccionar todas las habilidades de aguas abiertas, que se encaminan a la calidad de demostración, habilidades de rescate, intercambio de equipo (resolución de problemas),
Una vez completado el curso, el estudiante esta certificado como un PADI Divemaster y esta cualificado para atender a los programas PADI PROS y a los PADI Instructor Developement Course (IDC) que llevaría a una eventual certificación como PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.
