Do you want the skills to stay out of trouble? Do you want to learn practical solutions if you get into difficulty? Do you want to learn the tools to solve common paddling issues in a sheltered water environment? Then the Paddlesport Safety and Rescue course is for you!

Your course will support you to explore and practice simple strategies and safe skills that provide you with the tools to solve common paddling issues in a sheltered water environment, providing peace of mind when venturing out onto the water.

This course is open to anyone of any age. As an AALA-licensed provider, we can deliver this to participants under the age of 18.

First of all, this award is all about keeping safe on your craft in sheltered water venues, this includes canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards. So, whether you are paddling with friends or your club, this practical course is packed with safe practical solutions. It doesn’t matter about your age or whether you have limited paddling experience, this course supports your knowledge and raises your awareness of your personal safety.

If you needed any more convincing, the course is completely based on training and raising awareness, with no assessment. Structured to support you, our experienced tutors will ensure you have plenty of time to practice, as well as understand how you can develop skills and experience after the course.

The course will cover 6 modules:

  • Clothing and Equipment
  • Safety frameworks
  • Contact and Towing rescues
  • Self-rescues
  • Deep water rescues
  • Reflection and development

Prerequisites:

  • Have experience paddling in a sheltered water environment.
  • Be able to swim in normal paddling clothes

What to bring

The following is a list of recommended equipment, if you do not have it do not worry! we will have loads you can play with so you can find the best kit for you:

  • Towline OR Tow system
  • Throwline
  • Webbing (sewn or unsewn sling) and large karabiner
  • Whistle
  • Knife

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your start time
