The river meets you in green light and hush—broad, slow water threading rainforest that leans close enough to touch. You push off from a small Embera-used landing near Gamboa and the Chagres dares you forward, its surface broken by water lilies, a turtle slipping away, and the occasional rumble of a big freighter far down in Gatun Lake where the Canal takes over.
