Yes—operators must present a valid driver’s license; youth with licenses can drive but must book at the driver rate.
No—the tour explores private plantations and trails near Pacaya but does not enter the San Vicente Pacaya National Park.
Hikes are optional and typically short—20–60 minutes on cooled lava, depending on your group’s interest and conditions.
Closed-toe shoes, long pants, a light wind layer, and sun protection are recommended; helmets are provided by the operator.
Pacaya’s eruptions have shaped local settlement and agriculture for centuries; nearby Antigua was an important colonial hub affected historically by volcanic activity in the region.
Stay on designated trails and avoid collecting volcanic rock; private operators and communities often work to limit erosion and preserve agricultural plots along the route.
