History

The desert around Dubai sustained nomadic Bedouin communities and caravan pathways; modern safaris borrow rituals—coffee, tents, henna—from that living culture.

Conservation

Dune ecosystems are fragile—stay on established tracks, avoid littering and choose operators that follow local conservation guidelines.

Adventure tips

Hydrate before you goBring a full water bottle and sip regularly—drivers and camps provide drinks, but the desert’s dry air dehydrates quickly.

Wear layers for the nightTemperatures drop after sunset; a lightweight jacket and long sleeves make the evening and early morning comfortable.

Protect from sun and sandSunglasses, a wide-brim hat and SPF are useful for daytime stretches and dune walks; goggles or a scarf help during dune bashing.

Secure motion-sensitive ridersIf you get motion sick, take precautions or skip the dune bashing—rides are fast and can be jarring.

Recommended gear

Closed-toe shoes: Protects feet from hot sand, sharp rocks and while boarding camels.
Layered jacket or fleece: Nights can be chilly—layers keep you comfortable after sunset.
Sun protection (hat, SPF, sunglasses): Essential for daytime heat and reflective sand glare.
Small daypack with water and phone battery pack: Keeps personal items handy and ensures phone stays charged for sunrise/sunset photos.
