We start the day at Inverness Castle, the home, for the moment, of the Sheriff Courthouse.
The building, fairly modern, by Scottish standards, was built in the early nineteenth century and is on the site of the original Fort George, blown up by the Jacobite Army.
In front of the Castle, and looking Westward to see if her beloved Prince Charles Edward has escaped finally to France, is the statue of the Highland Heroine, Flora MacDonald and her collie, Dileas.
A wonderful view over the River Ness and St Andrew’s Cathedral is afforded from here.

Scottish Highlands weather can shift quickly; bring a windproof jacket and moisture-wicking layers.
With pre-planned photo stops featuring rivers, castles, and statues, you’ll want plenty of battery for capturing the views.
Though largely driven between sites, expect short walks over uneven terrain at historic locations.
The tour lasts 8 hours; hydration and a light snack will keep your energy up during the day.
The area is defined by its Jacobite past and Flora MacDonald’s daring role in the ’45 uprising, with Inverness Castle at the historic crossroads.
Hame Tours emphasizes sustainable tourism practices, minimizing environmental impact and supporting local conservation efforts by restricting group sizes and promoting respect for heritage sites.
