About This Adventure

Embark on a captivating eBike tour through North Tipperary's rich history, visiting ancient churches and ruins. Discover the stories of lepers, murder victims, and notable families as you cycle through serene back roads. With a maximum of six participants, enjoy a personalized experience exploring the region's medieval heritage at a leisurely pace.

The group will travel by mini bus from Nenagh to Coolbawn Cross, where they will pick up their eBikes. We will then proceed back to Nenagh, calling at the following spots.

  • The 12th Century Kilbarron Abbey, which can be explored on foot, and I will relate the history of St Bairrfhionn, the founder of the abbey.
  • The 16th Century Annagh Castle, where I will give a potted history of the O'Kennedy family and relate the story of Edward Roe O'Kennedy who is said to haunt the castle.
  • Knigh Cross, where we will observe the castle tower and visit the 15th Century church, where I will show the group the Minnit grave, where the murderers of Caleb Minnit in 1707 are named.
  • Dromineer, where the group will visit the 10th Century Church and view the 13th Century castle, focussing in particular on its role in the notorious Cromwell campaign in Ireland in the 1640s.
  • Nenagh, where we will finish up at Nenagh Castle. I propose to run the tour on both Saturdays of Heritage week and group size is maximum of 6 people.
