Night settles over Lake Llanquihue and the cone of Osorno cuts a hard silhouette against the southern sky. Participants meet at the Teski Lodge at ~1,100 m, where a room, a hot meal and a briefing replace the rush of the road. Before dawn the group straps on boots and crampons, moves up volcanic scree and onto blue ice — the mountain demanding focus at every step.

Requires high cardiovascular fitness, leg strength and comfort with long multi-hour ascents at altitude.
No prior technical experience is required; guides teach crampon and axe techniques, but you must be physically fit and comfortable on steep, exposed slopes.
Guides provide helmet, harness, crampons and ice axe; bring rigid mountaineering boots, layered clothing, sunglasses, headlamp, 2–3 L water and snacks.
The summit day can take 6–10 hours round-trip depending on conditions and fitness, with roughly 1,200–1,500 m of elevation gain from the lodge to the summit.
Highly dependent; trips are canceled in poor conditions for safety. Stable weather windows in summer are preferred, and contingency plans exist for delays.
Osorno is a Holocene stratovolcano shaped by repeated eruptions tied to Nazca Plate subduction; it has been a landmark for local communities and 19th-century explorers.
The route sits within or near protected areas—respect closures, pack out waste and minimize campfire impacts to protect fragile alpine and volcanic systems.
