One-Hour Hop: Ft. Lauderdale Executive (FXE) to North Eleuthera (ELH) with Makers Air

From Ft. Lauderdale Executive (FXE) to North Eleuthera (ELH), Makers Air condenses a trip that might take half a day into a tidy one-hour hop. Departing from Ft. Lauderdale’s smaller executive field, the scheduled service is designed for travelers bound for Harbour Island, Governor’s Harbour and the long, pale beaches that define Eleuthera. The approach over the Bahamas is immediate: low, turquoise water, reef patterns visible beneath the wing, and a landing that feels like arriving at an island airstrip in a movie. For visitors who value time on the sand, this flight is the practical choice. This is not a major carrier; Makers Air runs scheduled weekly services with straightforward rules that keep the line moving. Check-in opens 60 minutes before departure and closes 20 minutes prior; passengers who miss that window forfeit their seat. Every ticket includes up to 40 pounds of checked baggage—enough for soft bags and beach gear—and Makers Air offers complimentary valet parking at FXE (self-parking is not available). Extra weight carries a $2 per pound fee and is not guaranteed to fly. Pets travel for a fee (minimum $35 or $2 per pound) and must have Bahamas agricultural permits when required. Why this connection matters: Eleuthera and nearby Harbour Island are island destinations where transport options are limited. Makers Air acts like a vital bridge, turning a daytrip or short stay into something realistic for families, couples, and solo travelers chasing Pink Sands Beach, the rugged Glass Window Bridge, or quiet fishing villages. The airports themselves are part of the local rhythm; North Eleuthera’s compact terminal means quick customs, fast luggage pick-up, and immediate access to taxis, ferries, and rental carts. Practical notes that matter on arrival: passports are required for travel to and from the United States; Bahamas Customs now uses a digital submission app called Exempt for declarations. Do not attempt to bring fresh fruit, flowers, meat, dairy, eggs, or live plants without the proper agriculture permit. Makers Air disclaims liability for delays due to weather or customs, so plan connections conservatively. For travelers who turn flights into time saved rather than transit, Makers Air’s route from FXE to ELH is a functional, scenic shortcut to some of the Caribbean’s most photogenic shores. Book online, arrive early, keep documents and receipts for excess luggage or cargo, and your first sight of Eleuthera’s coral coastline will likely arrive sooner than you expect. Local operators on Eleuthera - boat captains, rental cart businesses, and small hotels in Dunmore Town - coordinate with arrivals, so a quick text or call after you land can save time. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a light wind layer; the trade breeze can be strong even on otherwise warm days. Travel smart.
