Adventure tips

Time your ferry and tideCheck the ferry timetable and local tide charts—high tide gives the classic floating-torii view, low tide lets you walk closer to the gate.

Respect the memorial sitesMaintain quiet, follow posted photography rules at Peace Memorial Park and the museum, and avoid using flash in exhibits.

Comfortable footwear mattersExpect paved urban walking and wooden boardwalks; light hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers reduce fatigue across the day.

Carry small changeSome shrine offerings, local snacks, and additional cable car or museum donations prefer cash—keep small bills on hand.

Recommended gear

Comfortable walking shoes: Support and traction for mixed surfaces—city pavement, boardwalks, and short temple steps.
Light rain jacket: Spring showers are common; a packable shell keeps you dry without overheating.
Reusable water bottle: Stay hydrated during longer walks and while waiting for ferries in humid weather.
Small daypack with cash and camera: Carries snacks, guidebooks, purchases, and a camera for changing light on the torii and park.
