90 minutes - minimum age: 8; max weight 235 lbs. Riding horses is a physically demanding activity and has inherent risks involved. Riders must be able to walk a mile without any breaks.

  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to your ride. We cannot guarantee your ride if you are not checked into the stables 30 minutes prior to the start time of the ride as we do have many rides daily!
  • We recommend bringing your own water as saddle bags will be provided
  • Restrooms are available at the stables. There is no need to check in at the welcome center. You can arrive at the stables and get checked in there.

How to determine what level rider you are:

  • Beginner - You have never been on a horse or have only ridden less than 10 times in the past few years
  • Intermediate - You have continuously taken horseback riding lessons for at least a year
  • Advanced - You can comfortably ride any age and level of horse and are able to safely control a horse at any gait

The horseback trail ride takes you to the area where Georgia O’Keeffe found her inspiration, completed several paintings, and owned a home. The ride begins with an introduction and preview of examples of her work followed by a trail ride into the restricted area of Ghost Ranch where you see through your own eyes the actual locations of Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings. The shining red and yellow cliffs of the Piedra Lumbre, the black trails of waterfalls against canyon walls, and her beloved Pedernal Mountain, interwoven with stories of her fifty years at Ghost Ranch. This ride is for all levels of experience.

NOTICE We reserve the right to cancel any ride at any time due to weather. If a ride is canceled, riders may recieve a refund or rebook the ride to a different day. If you are LATE for a ride, we cannot refund or rebook. Your account will still be charged the full amount of the ride.

The high desert climate can be dry and sunny, so carry water to stay hydrated throughout the ride.

UV rays are strong in New Mexico, so apply sunscreen before the ride and bring some for touch-ups.
