The engines rumble and the volcanic wind pushes you forward as the quad climbs away from the sapling forest and onto hard, black lava fields. You feel the machine under you, steering through rutted trails that thread between ancient craters and Scots pines scorched by past eruptions. Mount Etna’s slopes open like a raw geological page, each turn revealing layers of lava, pumice and the pale scars of more recent flows.
