Founded in 1994, Dolphin Jet Boat Tours is a small, family-owned whale-watching operator based in Juneau, Alaska. The company is recognized as the original whale-watching company in Juneau and has focused on intimate, locally staffed tours that connect visitors with Southeast Alaska’s marine and glacier landscapes.
Dolphin Jet Boat Tours operates a fleet of mammal-friendly jet boats designed for close yet responsible encounters with humpback whales and other marine life. Guides are primarily local hires who prioritize safety, wildlife stewardship, and visitor experience. Quick transfers between vehicles and compact group sizes help maximize time on the water and reduce wait times for guests.
Tour offerings include the Nugget Falls Adventure and Whale Watching Tour, which combines a scenic 1.5-mile hike to Nugget Falls for panoramic views of Mendenhall Glacier and wildlife viewing at Steep Creek, with two hours on the water focused on whale watching. The Mendenhall Glacier Waterfall and Whale Watching Tour provides an additional hour at the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area, allowing time to observe salmon, visit the Visitor Center, and hike toward Nugget Falls before heading out for whale viewing. The Mendenhall Glacier and Whale Watching Tour offers a focused glacier visit paired with whale-watching on the water.
As a long-standing Juneau operator, Dolphin Jet Boat Tours emphasizes responsible wildlife viewing, local employment, and a family-operated approach that aims to give visitors an authentic Alaskan experience. The company’s small size and intimate tours make it suitable for visitors seeking personal guidance and meaningful wildlife encounters in Juneau.
