Morning light slices the jungle above Chiang Mai as your driver threads mountain roads toward a century of temples, waterfalls and borderlands. On day one you climb the staircase to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep (built AD 1382) and feel the city fall away; later you slip your feet into the porous limestone of Bua Thong — the ‘sticky’ waterfall 60 km north — and literally walk up water-smoothed cascades.
