You step onto the low-slung boat as the Katherine River narrows. Rock walls rise, colors stripping from russet to burnished gold, and the water tightens into a ribbon that seems to hold time. The engine settles to a near-silent murmur and the guide’s voice—a mix of practical briefing and Jawoyn storytelling—cuts through the air. For the next two hours the gorge rearranges your sense of scale: sheer sandstone canyons, shaded coves, and narrow channels carved by water that both erodes and preserves.

The standard two‑gorge cruise lasts about 2 hours; a longer three‑gorge option runs around 3 hours, and there are dawn departures for the two‑hour itinerary.
